Pulling the black battery and motor internal holder upward allows easy filling of the peppercorn or coarse salt well. Peppercorn/course salt well is transparent to indicate when refilling is necessary. Openly accessible (under the base) are (1) the grind adjustment screw, from fine to coarse, and (2) a small light that goes on each time you use the grinder to see how much is being dispensed.
